Company Support Sought for Employer Coalition Urging Congress to Reauthorize CTE Programs

HR Policy is joining other business groups and individual companies in a letter to Congress urging reauthorization of the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act, which oversees the nation's $1.1 billion career and technical education programs offered in high schools and community colleges across the country.  The letter will urge Congress to focus on three areas where improvements can be made to current law, building upon its past successes and enhancing aspects of the Perkins Act which will help to better serve both workers and employers:
  • Align CTE programs to the needs of the regional, state, and local labor market;
  • Support effective and meaningful collaboration between secondary and postsecondary institutions and employers; and
  • Increase student participation in experiential learning opportunities such as industry internships, apprenticeships and mentorships.
Change the Equation, which is leading the coalition with the help of companies such as IBM, Boeing and Exxon Mobil, is seeking additional employers to sign the letter encouraging Congress to reauthorize the Perkins Act.  Companies interested in co-signing the letter should contact Alec Wescott at [email protected].  Companies wishing to learn more about the Perkins Act or the coalition should visit www.Perkinscte.com.
