The tragedy at YouTube this week has renewed attention on employer active shooter policies, including a New York Times article mentioning several HR Policy member company programs. The story notes the virtual impossibility of ensuring 100 percent against such incidents, but adds that, in the wake of 9/11 and other recent violent incidents, employers have stepped up their efforts to protect their workplaces. The article highlights the programs and policies of member companies Accenture, General Mills, Hallmark, Hershey and Wendy's. In the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy in 2015, member companies shared their programs on a publicly available HR Policy webpage, which demonstrates the commitment of large companies to the security and safety of their employees, contractors, and customers.
