HHS Nominee Alex Azar Brings Strong Credentials to Role

Published on:

Topics:

President Trump nominated Alex Azar, former Deputy Secretary of HHS (predecessor to AHPI CEO Tevi Troy in that role), to serve as Secretary of Health and Human Services.  Following Azar's tenure at HHS, he served as President of Lilly USA, the largest affiliate of pharmaceutical leader and HR Policy member Eli Lilly and Company.  In a recent call with AHPI Governors, Dr. Troy noted Mr. Azar's nomination would likely be a welcome development for employers.  Dr. Troy also endorsed Mr. Azar's nomination in The Washington Post and The Hill, saying Mr. Azar brings "competence, leadership, a smart, conservative agenda, and also an understanding of how the regulatory process works, which I think is important given that the Trump administration is trying to accomplish a lot of its health policy goals via the administrative process."  The Association looks forward to working with Mr. Azar on a variety of issues, including moving away from the traditional fee-for-service payment model to episode-related payment models that promote high-quality, high-value health care services.
