A new report by Mercer suggests the UK faces an impending workforce crisis caused by the compounding of Brexit-related immigration losses and an aging work population. As reported in the most recent BEERG Global Labor Newsletter, the report states, "With immigration likely to fall, organizations must take the opportunity now to get ahead in order to ensure future growth and minimize risk. Even without Brexit, many professions already experience a tight labor market due to demographic shifts and skills transformation activated by automation, digital and innovation." Of the four possible scenarios the report explores, none results in an adequate supply of workers in the UK's economy. "The inability of certain sectors of the UK economy to fill roles," the report observes, "could be dramatic."
