3M, in partnership with Discovery Education, is looking to find the top young scientist of 2015 as part of its Young Scientist Challenge for students in grades 5 through 8 who are competing for a $25,000 prize, the title of America's Top Young Scientist and a student adventure trip to a destination such as Costa Rica.  Finalists will receive $1,000 and be awarded a trip to 3M Headquarters to participate in the final competition where they will be evaluated on a series of three different challenges, including a presentation of their completed innovation.  Each finalist also receives the opportunity to work directly with a 3M scientist during a unique summer mentorship program, where they will be challenged to develop an innovation that positively impacts them, their family, their community or the global population.  Throughout the program, each student will have access to resources and support provided by 3M and Discovery Education.  Students will then present their inventions during the competition's final event at the 3M Innovation Center in St. Paul, Minnesota on October 12 and 13.  HR Policy Association Director Marlene McGrath, Senior Vice President, 3M Human Resources, observed: "It's critical to increase the capabilities of our current workforce and build a strong pipeline today, but we also want to ensure a future pool of talent.  That means getting students interested in science and technology in an engaging way.  The Young Scientist Challenge is one way we're inspiring innovation for the future and growing tomorrow's workforce."  Since its inception, the Young Scientist Challenge has awarded more than $600,000 in student scholarships and prizes.
