The Labor Ministry will give flexibility to employers to provide a four day work week with a ceiling of 48 hours per week in the final rules that will be notified soon. However, employers will have to give three days (balance of the week) of paid leave to such workers. These 12-hour day arrangements will require the written consent of the employee. The move was triggered after concerns were raised over the government's proposal to increase the number of work hours to 12 under the Code on Occupational Safety. Currently, employers have to obtain the consent of the government to reduce the number of work days in a week (48 hours either for a six day work week at 8 hours per day, or five day work week at 9.5 hours per day).
