Employer Communications Most Credible Source on Coronavirus, Edelman Survey Finds

March 20, 2020

According to a new Edelman survey, employer communications are the most trusted source of information about the coronavirus, over government and traditional news media sources.

“Sixty-three percent said that they would believe information from that channel after one or two exposures, versus 58 percent for a government website and 51 percent for traditional media,” Edelman notes.  Almost two-thirds (63 percent) of employees said they want at least daily updates from employers and 20 percent said they would like updates several times a day.

After health authorities, “My employer” is the most trusted institution to respond effectively, the survey also found.

Takeaway:  Edelman notes that the results are unsurprising, given past results.  In the 2020 Edelman Trust Barometer, “My employer” was rated as the most trusted institution by a large margin, beating out business in general and NGOs by 18 points and government and media sources by 27 points.
