COVID-19 Update – India

With Covid-19 cases steadily dwindling, India is beginning to reopen. On February 1st, Cinema Halls have been allowed to operate at100% capacity. Similarly, swimming pools have also been allowed to open, and flight and train travel is getting back to normal levels. Meanwhile, India is picking up its vaccination efforts, inoculating over 4 million frontline workers v in 15 days, an increase from a daily vaccination count of about 177,000 last week to 266,000 this week. However, this is still below the threshold of 330,000 daily vaccinations required if the target of vaccinating 300 million people (Phase 1) by July is to be met. Meanwhile, 4G internet has been restored in Jammu and Kashmir after an 18-month shutdown.
