President Trump Makes Additional Nominations & Appointments

Beyond a flurry of executive orders including a 60-day regulatory freeze, the Trump administration has wasted no time in transmitting additional selections for cabinet, deputy and assistant secretary level positions as well as acting and independent agency appointments.

Why it matters: The speed at which the Senate can hold hearings and “advise and consent” on nominees impacts the ability of the administration to carry out Trump’s executive orders. By appointing “acting” leaders, the agencies can begin work while awaiting Senate confirmation of the President’s ultimate choice to lead an agency.

Nominations & Appointments of Note:

  • Marvin Kaplan – Chair of the National Labor Relations Board

  • Andrew Ferguson – Chair of the Federal Trade Commission

  • Paul Atkins – Member of the Securities and Exchange Commission (expected to be named Chair upon confirmation)

  • Mark Meador – Federal Trade Commissioner

  • Andrea Lucas – Acting Chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission

  • Mark Uyeda – Acting Chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission (pending confirmation of nominee Paul Atkins)

  • Vincent Micone – Acting Secretary of Labor (pending confirmation of nominee Lori Chavez-DeRemer).

  • Dorothy Fink – Acting Secretary of Health and Human Services (pending confirmation of nominee Robert F. Kennedy Jr.)

  • James McHenry – Acting Attorney General (pending confirmation of nominee Pamela Bondi)

What’s next: While Senate hearings have begun for several nominees, only former Senator, now Secretary of State Marco Rubio, has been confirmed since inauguration day.
