The recent rollback of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) policies in the U.S. sparks debate on global implications.

HR Policy Global members gathered recently for an informative webinar on the impact of the Executive Orders on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs outside of the US.  Many companies are reassessing the public communication of their programs and results, while others are making changes to the nomenclature of their Diversity programs (towards the language of ‘Inclusion’).

HR Policy Global perspective: Organizations are being challenged to recalibrate DE&I strategies beyond traditional lenses, focusing on employee inclusion and culture. Additionally, as economic disparities grow, ensuring that employees feel secure in their financial and overall wellbeing is important to allow them to engage in fostering an inclusive work environment.

As the CHRO of one member company has commented, building a sustainable inclusion-focused strategy ensures that all employees “see the opportunities for a productive life” within the company.

The bottom line: Multinational corporations in the Asia-Pacific region face a choice: reassess DE&I commitments due to global pressures or adapt to regional cultural contexts.

Adapting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) strategies to align with local realities ensures that programs are meaningful and sustainable. Leadership plays a crucial role in maintaining robust initiatives despite external pressures, while compliance with local diversity mandates, such as the Australian Gender Pay Equity legislation, remains a critical component for effective global operations. Local compliance not only fulfills legal requirements but also strengthens organizational reputation and operational efficiency, making DE&I strategies more culturally relevant and impactful.
