In its first "Check-in with the Chair" webinar, HR Policy Association featured retiring CHROs, Peter Fasolo of Johnson & Johnson and Rhonda Morris of Chevron, who shared insights on success in HR leadership and the future focus for the profession.
Key learnings driving CHRO success
Peter Fasolo's advice:
Future of HR: Mr. Fasolo sees an exciting future where CHROs play crucial roles in managing company reputation, integrating AI and machine learning, and fostering success in key roles. He emphasized centering company culture as we have learned in a post-COVID world.
Rhonda Morris's practical tips:
Adaptability: Be prepared to adjust plans amid uncertainties, as real-world situations are rarely black and white.
Communication: Prioritize clear communication across all workforce levels.
Humility: Don’t take yourself too seriously; remember your work doesn’t define who you are.
On the Role of CHROs:
Strategic alignment: Help Boards and P&L teams recognize how people issues drive value creation.
Employee stewardship: Balance alignment with strategic goals and focus on the wellbeing of employees and their families.
On the Future of HR:
Adapting to new models: With shifts toward gig work and AI, HR will need strategies to maintain culture and identity amid diverse work arrangements.
AI and learning: Identify key AI use cases and prepare employees for roles impacted by new technologies.
Use HRPA to build connections and harness peer insight: Both speakers urged HR Policy Association members to leverage the Association to connect with CHROs of comparable companies, share best practices, develop succession plans with peer insights, and confer on solutions to shared challenges.
We look forward to offering quarterly “Check-in” sessions with Tim Richmond to bring the latest association developments as well as peer wisdom regarding the evolving role of CHROs and practical advice for building forward-thinking HR teams.
