ICYMI: NJ Passes Pay Transparency

The New Jersey legislature passed Senate Bill 2310, a pay transparency bill augmenting the state’s existing pay equity law, one of the most robust in the country. The law becomes effective seven months after its expected signature by Governor Phil Murphy (D).

New Jersey’s bill: The bill requires employers in the state to include a salary range and benefits information in all job postings and promotion opportunities.

  • Notably, employers retain some flexibility to increase the wages, benefits, and compensation when making an offer of employment.

  • Noncompliance may result in a penalty of $300 for the first violation and $600 for each subsequent violation.

Multistate trend: New Jersey joins nine other states requiring wage disclosure, a growing trend in addition to pay equity legislation.

HRPA webinar: For a broader discussion of the current and pending state pay transparency laws, please join our State Transparency Law webinar, October 30, from 11 a.m.- 12 p.m. ET.
