Unions: UAW breaks through in VW Tennessee

Last week, VW workers in Chattanooga voted overwhelmingly for UAW representation. It is the first time UAW has managed to secure representation rights in a foreign-owned auto plant in the US

Why it matters: The union victory at VW could inspire workers across the Southern states to seek unionization, impacting other auto plants and their suppliers.

The big picture: UAW's breakthroughs in the 1930s spurred the growth of the US union movement. Will this victory ignite a new wave of union growth?

The bottom line: With support from the Biden administration, UAW's success signals a turning point for unions in the US.
