NLRB Webinar: Employee Engagement and Communication Key

A panel of legal experts and HR Policy members discussed several hot button labor law issues and their practical implications for employers in a webinar hosted by the Association.

Fast and furious change at the NLRB: The panel discussed the flurry of law and policy changes occurring at the Board over the last few months, including attacks on employee handbooks, easier paths to union representation, and expansion of joint employer liability. Panelists discussed the significant negative implications these changes could have for employers, and offered practical advice on how to continue to manage the workplace and engage with employees effectively despite Board activity.

Continued employee engagement and communication a must: Ms. Dewyea and Ms. Fisher both emphasized the continued need to effectively engage and communicate with employees on workplace issues, including unionization. Panelists also emphasized the importance of having constant communication with front line supervisors and managers and ensuring that they are properly equipped to deal with potential unionization efforts. Ms. Dewyea and Ms. Fisher outlined how their organizations had conducted new training for their managers in light of recent Board policy and law changes.
