BEERG Newsletter - Spain: Royal Decree Laws on equal treatment and working day registration

Ruben Agote [email protected] writes: Two Royal Decree Laws that will substantially impact labor relations have been published in the last two weeks in Spain. The first one is Royal Decree Law 6/2019 on urgent measures to guarantee equal treatment and opportunities for men and women at work, in force since March 8, with the main exception of the extension of childbirth leaves.  RDL 6/2019 introduces significant changes regarding the following matters:

  • Equality plans
  • Equal remuneration and transparency
  • Adjusting of working time
  • Suspension of employment agreement due to childbirth (former maternity and paternity leaves
  • Terminating employment agreement of employees with children

The second relevant regulation is Royal Decree Law 8/2019, on urgent social protection measures aimed at fighting job insecurity in relation to the working day. This regulation will come into force on May 12, and it introduces the obligation for all companies to keep a daily register of each employee’s standard working day.
