Auret van Heerden
Raised in an apartheid South Africa, Auret van Heerden became an student activist early seeking equality and workers' rights. He was tortured, imprisoned in solitary confinement, and then exiled. In post-apartheid South Africa, he became labor attaché to the South African UN mission. He was president and CEO of the Fair Labor Association, an initiative that brings together companies, NGOs and universities to develop and keep up international labor standards in global supply chains. More recently he has become the founder and CEO of Equiception, a consultancy that specialises in sustainable supply chains, corporate social responsibility and workers’ rights.
