Democratic Senators have asked President Trump to issue an executive order that would prevent the federal government from entering into any contracts with companies that have offshore customer service operations.  In a letter to President Trump from Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) and a number of other Senate Democrats, the President is asked "to not only focus on bringing back manufacturing jobs, but service sector jobs as well; in particular customer service and call center jobs."  This week, Senator Casey reintroduced legislation that would:

  • Direct the Department of Labor to report when companies move call center jobs overseas;
  • Make companies that use overseas call centers "ineligible for Federal grants or guaranteed loans;" and
  • Require companies to disclose call center locations to consumers and to give consumers the option to transfer to a domestic call center.
