Last week, the House Republican Policy Committee launched the Working Group on Women in the 21st Century Workforce to examine the barriers and challenges women face and recommend solutions. These issues were also highlighted this week by Ivanka Trump at the Republican convention in her introduction of her father (see earlier story). The working group will focus on four key pillars related to women in the workforce: expanding opportunity, increasing flexibility, removing barriers, and empowering the next generation. According to Rep. Martha McSally (R-AZ), the group will conduct a series of listening sessions around the country with organizations, think tanks, and scholars, and hold hearings and roundtables to "identify solutions for expanding opportunity and improving outcomes for women." The working group is likely to take the lead in developing Republican legislation in the next session of Congress to address equal pay and paid leave issues, among other concerns.
