BEERG: European Labor Union Group Looks to Activate Social Media

July 27, 2018

The European Trade Union Institute (ETUI) argued in a policy brief that, based on victories in the United States by unions using social media, the technology may similarly help renew trade union collective action and strengthen the labor movement’s capacity to mobilize.

Using as examples campaigns such as Fight for 15, the authors claim unions in the United States using social media “gained unexpected and significant victories on minimum wage increases and improvements to working conditions.”

BEERG’s upcoming training program Managing European Employee Relations in Challenging Times will examine social media in labor relations, an issue that, according to the most recent BEERG Global Labor Newsletter, goes well beyond the potential for unions to use it as a campaigning tool.
